He is growing and gaining weight well but the nursing still doesn't come easy. He had started doing a great job. I had a lot of milk so I think it was easier for him to get. He was taking enough for a feeding and I was nursing all but one or two feedings a day. After about 10 days he started taking a long time to nurse and acting more sleepy again. So I gave him breast milk in a bottle and pumped for one feeding...low and behold I did not produce much. I had only been pumping once a day at one of the two bottle feedings. So I think that, in combination with Braylon's lazy suck, was not stimulating me enough to keep my supply up. So I've gone back to giving him breast milk in the bottle and pumping at each feeding, only trying to nurse twice a day. I hoped pumping like a mad woman would get my supply back up. It's hard to tell only a couple days into the process, but it may be working slowly but surely. Originally I thought I'd only nurse through six weeks, but since he was doing well I'd bumped up my goal to at least eight weeks but maybe all the way up until I go back to work at twelve weeks. And you know me...once I've set a goal I'm not likely to back out. Josh and our moms suggest I should let nature run it's course and let it slowly dry up and wean if that's what's happening. I'm just not ready to give it up yet. I can't really explain why but there's just something about looking down at the little guy while he's nursing. So we'll see, jury is still out. If I can't keep my supply up then I won't have a choice.
Braylon has gotten out and about this week! We took him out to Olive Garden with us on Monday night for my birthday. Tuesday he went to Crowe to meet Mommy's work friends. Then last night he went to Court South to meet Mommy's gym friends! I miss my friends at work, but I still don't miss work ;) But I miss the folks at the gym and the gym itself. I can't wait to get back to working out. I feel like I'll be ready in a week or two. I'll definitely be taking class before I teach any. Especially Attack, I'll have to ease back into it. I'm likely to look like a first timer in the back of the room haha!
My post-partum doctor's visit is tomorrow. Hoping that the incision is healing well now. The steri-strips just worked their way off the other day and that end of the incision doesn't look as good as the rest. We'll see what the doc says. I'm curious to see if I get the all clear on lifting again and when and if I might be able to get in the lake this summer. Braylon has already made his first lake appearance as you'll see in the pics below!
