A little late on my week 30 update…but here it is.
I had my 30 week doctor visit a week ago Monday. The Monday before that though, I had an unscheduled doctor visit. The Sunday night before I had a couple dizzy spells, one that landed me on the floor in the kitchen holding the spatula I was using to brown some ground beef. Luckily Josh was right next to me. I just got so dizzy that I couldn’t stand up so he laid me down in the floor. I didn’t pass out, I was completely clear headed with all me wits about me. The first thing I said was ‘here lay the spatula on the spoon rest so I don’t get it dirty’ haha. We thought my blood sugar must of dropped, so Josh had me sit on the couch and drink some juice while he finished fixing supper. Later after eating I got a little wobbly when I stood up. So I called the doctor the next day at work. They wanted to see me once I described what was going on over the phone. Cliff notes of the outcome: my BP was low, blood sugar was low, and iron was low. The doctor said my eating habits sucked and that I wasn’t getting enough rest. She wanted me to eat more, more often, and more of the right types of things. She also wrote me an excuse for work and had me stay home and rest the rest of that day and the next. They did a long ultrasound because I wasn’t feeling him move a lot. They also hooked me up to the fetal heart rate and contraction monitor. Oddly enough I had 2 contractions while I was hooked up on the thing and never felt it at all. Apparently they weren’t concerned with that. And the baby looked just fine. Basically, I had gotten myself too run down and Braylon was taking everything he needed from my body and not leaving enough for me to sustain myself.
So last week’s 30 week visit went much better. I am still at a 19 lb weight gain and my blood pressure was back to 100/50 or so, which is normal for me. I have been feeling much better after my attempt to eat better and get more rest. I saw my favorite doc at this visit and she had read up on my chart from the week before and followed-up on all my craziness. The nurse listened to the baby’s heart rate which was in the 140s, sounded good. The doc also told me to start doing kick counts. I pick 2 hours a day, preferably 2 of his most active hours, and count 10 kicks in that period. My understanding is that one kick is movement and then a break, not necessarily a ‘kick’. She said if I can’t count 10 in a 2 hour period to call. That must mean he would be in some sort of distress. She also said to call the office if I felt 2 or more contractions in a one hour period. I’m not sure if I would even feel it or know it was a contraction though. But as much as I’m ready to meet him, I don’t want any part of early labor!
The 32 week visit is at the end of this week. I’ll take a new belly picture for that update!
